The Story of BeamFest

Independent Music. Local Talent. Community Spirit.

Bringing Music Back to Newton-Le-Willows

BeamFest was born from a simple idea - Newton-Le-Willows deserved a music festival of it's own.

Following the loss of the town's former Newton Music Festival, a group of local musicians and enthusiasts began discussing how they could bring that festival spirit back to the community.

Among them was Dean Hill, frontman of local band, Pink Steel and his wife Lisa, both passionate supporters of local music and Andy Lewis, another local musician and frontman of local band, King Monday. After conversations with the then-landlord of The Sunbeam Hotel, the idea of holding a festival in the pub's beer garden began to take shape.

And So in 2011, BeamFest was born.

A Festival Built on Music and Friendship.

BeamFest quickly became a celebration of independent music and local talent. From its earliest days, the festival brought together an eclectic mix of bands, acoustic performers, families and music lovers, all sharing a love of live music in the welcoming surroundings of The Sunbeam Hotel.

Over the years, the festival has seen countless musicians take to its stages, from emerging local artists finding their feet to established favourites returning to play for familiar faces.

With its colourful decorations, lively beer garden and unmistakably independent character, BeamFest has always been a little different. Its a festival where the people are just as important as the performers, where friendships are made and where everyone is welcome.

The People Behind BeamFest

For most of its history, BeamFest was lovingly organised by Dean & Lisa Hill, whose dedication to local music was at the heart of the festival.

In 2018, their son Joe Hill, himself a musician (Dekaytah, Serratone) organised the festival in support of The Mustard Tree, a local charity.

The festival has also relied on the generosity and hard work of countless musicians, volunteers, friends and supporters.

In 2026, after years of dedication, the organisation of BeamFest passed to Sian Lewis, with the pair continuing to offer their invaluable help, knowledge and support.

BeamFest Society, established in October 2026 was created to help secure the festivals future and extend its positive impact beyond the annual event.

While BeamFest continues to evolve, its original spirit remains unchanged.

From makeshift stages to packed beer gardens and unforgettable performances, BeamFest has created memories and an environment that offers budding artists a platform to showcase their talent. Its never been about big productions or famous names. Its about giving musicians a place to play and a place for music lovers to soak up the atmosphere..
